How do Heat Pumps work?

Heat pumps work by taking free residual heat from the environment and converting it into a usable higher temperature for space and water heating. It is the same principle used in fridges, freezers even the air conditioning in your car but in reverse. This low ambient temperature is gathered through ground works, or an air duct, where it is compressed to concentrate the energy into a smaller amount at a higher temperature. This higher grade energy is then transferred to hot water or a central heating system of use.
